Bin There (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information our iPhone and Apple Watch application (“App”) uses, where it is sent, and why.
In short: we do not have user accounts, we do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising. To look up your pickup schedule, the App has to send your street address and its location to our server, and our server sends your street address to waste collection services to find your schedule. To make later lookups faster, our server keeps a small amount of lookup data for a limited time, described below. That lookup data never includes your street address; the only place it can appear is our hosting provider’s request logs, which are deleted within 30 days.
If you allow it, the App reads your device’s location to find your street address. Turning your location into a street address is done by Apple’s MapKit service. Your device’s coordinates are also sent to our server with the schedule lookup described below.
When you type an address, search suggestions are provided by Apple’s MapKit service.
To get your schedule, the App sends the street address, city, state, and ZIP code to the Bin There service at getbinthere.com, along with the map coordinates of that address (or, when you use your current location, your device’s coordinates), rounded to five decimal places. Our service then:
The lookup data our server keeps never includes your street address, ZIP code, or exact coordinates (these can appear only in the request logs described below). To avoid repeating lookups, our server keeps the following, which is deleted automatically after the period shown:
We also keep counts by city or Census area, with no addresses: how often each provider found a schedule there, and how often people asked for an area we don’t cover yet. We use these to choose providers and decide which areas to add.
Like most web services, our hosting provider (Google Cloud / Firebase) keeps standard request logs, which can include the requested address, coordinates, and ZIP code, your IP address, and basic device information. These logs are used only for security and troubleshooting and are deleted automatically within 30 days.
The App stores your settings, your most recent pickup schedule, and the approximate location of your last lookup on your device so it doesn’t have to look up the same address again. This information stays on your device and is removed when you delete the App.
Pickup reminders are scheduled on your device. We do not use a push notification service and do not receive any notification data.

The optional “Buy Me a Coffee” link in Settings opens an external website, which has its own privacy policy.
Your address, coordinates, and ZIP code are used only to look up and display your pickup schedule, to make later lookups faster as described above, and to schedule reminders on your device. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information for advertising or marketing.
Our App is safe for all ages. We do not knowingly collect or store any personal information from children.
If we make any changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Effective Date” above. You should review this page periodically for any updates.
